Here’s what people are saying about our AFCPE® Research and Training Symposium.

Attending the annual AFCPE Symposium allows me to network with other professionals from around the country. I leave the symposium re-energized about my work, and I can’t wait to put all I have learned into practice back home.

Angela Mazzolini, AFC®

At the AFCPE Symposium, I feel validated and enriched by a community of like-minded professionals who really want to help people. Most of us spend our time focused on others, but for those few days, we get to focus on our own professional development, learning and networking. It’s a great feeling!

Kate Leiva, AFC®

I love this conference. I always come home with some new, practical advice to improve my programming. Usually I come home with more ideas for new things than I can accomplish!

Pam Atkinson, AFC®, Consumer Economics Educator, University of Illinois Extension

This symposium was a game changer! It opened my mind to new ideas and mechanisms to carry into my work with clients. The icing on the cake — meeting colleagues and making new friends!

Terri Bailey, AFC®

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dates and locations for future symposiums?

AFCPE Annual Research and Training Symposium 2017
November 15–17, 2017
San Diego, CA

How do I know if I should pay the member or non-member rate for the symposium?

There are two ways to achieve AFCPE member status.

1. If you paid the annual professional member dues of $125 (or $75 for certification candidates or $35 for student members) for the current symposium year (2016), you are entitled to the member registration price. Check your AFCPE membership status at my.afcpe.org

2. If you attended the symposium the previous year, you automatically received a complimentary membership for the following year. For example, if you attended the AFCPE Symposium in 2015, you are a member for 2016.

Am I a member of AFCPE since I paid my certification annual fee?

The certification program and membership are completely separate. Membership dues are paid annually. Membership dues are $125 for our professional members, $75 for our certification candidate members and $35 for AFCPE student members.

If you have successfully completed the certification program, you will pay an annual fee to maintain your designation ($50 for AFC or $65 for CHC). If you would like to become a member in addition to maintaining your designation, you would need to pay both the certification annual fee and the membership dues annually.

If I am presenting at the symposium, do I need to register for the symposium?

Yes! Please remember that anyone who will be attending the symposium needs to register.

Do I need to book my hotel room and make my own travel arrangements?

Yes. All symposium registrants are responsible for their travel and hotel arrangements.

Can guests attend certain symposium events, like the Awards Lunch?

Yes, guest can attend special symposium events. Please contact Katie Tornow, ktornow@afcpe.org for the approriate form.

How do I access this year’s proceedings?

The current year’s symposium proceedings will be posted at least one month prior to the event. You can view the most recent proceedings here.
